Liste de fréquence française nucléaire: LFNF-5
Numerous studies show that many French learners fail to develop the extensive vocabularies they need for advanced reading, which can be traced to the lack of opportunities to meet new words in the learning materials they are given, which in turn can be traced to the very basic, unfamilized vocabulary lists the materials are derived from. The goal of our project was to develop a new, complete, yet usable word list for French through first familizing and then nuclearizing a strong existing lemma list. Our LFNF-5 (liste de fréquence nucléaire française nuclearized–reduced–to family members more than 5% of their families by frequency) is the smallest list for the highest coverage that currently exists for French. Read about the entire process from concept to realization to validation here (https://doi.org/10.1111/modl.70021), the Oasis summary thereof here (https://www.oasis-database.org/details/l2ihc67k2/pdf/), or the list itself as a textfile here (https://www.lextutor.ca/cover/).
