The General Service List (GSL) is a set of 2,284 essential English words for learners, initially created in 1953 and updated in 1995. It organizes headwords into word families based on linguistic criteria and ranks them by frequency using data from the Brown Corpus. The revised GSL provides a more accurate and comprehensive tool for language learning.

The beginner-to-low-intermediate word lists for adolescent learners of French align with national curriculum requirements in England and draw on large, multi-genre corpora and adolescent-relevant materials and contain 1,250 items at foundation level (targeting CEFR A1–A2) and 1,750 at higher level (targeting CEFR A2–B1). On average, the lists cover 76% (foundation) and 81% (higher) of corpora representing adolescent language use.
