The Medical Academic Collocation List

The Medical Academic Collocation List (MACL) was developed from the Medical Academic Corpus, a 3.5-million-word collection of medical textbooks representing 31 medical specialties. The MACL contains the 20 most frequent words in the Academic Word List in Medicine (AWLM), identifying their most frequent and pedagogically useful collocational and phraseological patterns. The resulting list comprises 133 collocation types, covering both academic and technical medical vocabulary. Designed to complement the AWLM, the MACL shows common word combinations in medical discourse, supporting reading comprehension, vocabulary development, and the production of natural medical English.
